FAQs

What work experience do I need to apply for this role?

We do not require specific work experience, but it’s beneficial if you have previously worked with or supported children, young people, or vulnerable adults. Experience in managing challenging behavior or complex needs is especially useful. However, it is not necessary for this to be paid work; volunteering roles like youth center work, coaching sports teams, or helping within your own family can also demonstrate relevant experience. At Daleside Fleet, we value the life skills and personal qualities that come from a diverse range of experiences. While we provide comprehensive training, key attributes such as a positive, non-judgmental attitude, resilience, patience, and a genuine interest in working with vulnerable individuals are essential for success.

No formal qualifications are required for the role. We focus on your ability to support and care for young people, as well as your personal qualities, rather than formal academic credentials.
Yes, we offer a comprehensive staff training program. Upon joining, you will complete our induction training, followed by any additional training or refresher courses as needed. All in-person training sessions are paid for your time.
No, shift arrangements vary depending on the task you are working on. While some tasks have set start times, others, such as escorting, may not have a set finish time. We work across a variety of settings nationwide, and our services are both pre-planned and responsive to immediate needs, meaning working hours can vary. Flexibility is essential, as shifts may involve long days, overnight work, and consecutive shifts.
We do offer the option to work on a contract where you can specify your availability. However, since we operate 24/7, we require flexibility in working hours to meet the changing needs of the services we provide. The more adaptable and available you are, the more opportunities we can offer.
Given that we provide services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, daytime-only availability is too limiting for the roles we offer. You should be able to start and finish tasks at various times, including early mornings, late evenings, and overnight shifts. The more flexible you are, the more we can accommodate you with work.
Yes, you can choose a contract that allows you to indicate your availability. However, we expect you to be available regularly, and we’d need you to adjust your schedule based on service needs.
Because we operate seven days a week, there is an expectation that all staff will work some weekends, depending on the contract you sign. The exact frequency of weekend work will depend on your availability and the tasks at hand.
We require all of our escort and support staff to be involved in a range of services. If you are specifically interested in only one aspect of the role, we suggest reconsidering, as flexibility across different tasks is essential.
Unfortunately, we operate nationwide, and you will be required to travel across the country for both escorting and support roles. While tasks may start and end in your local area, travel is involved for the majority of our work.
No, we provide fully equipped company vehicles for all tasks. However, you will need to make your own way to and from the local vehicle bases to begin your shifts.
Most of our work involves working as part of a team. It is rare for staff to work alone, as tasks are typically carried out collaboratively. Your role within the team will vary, but responsibilities include driving, liaising with stakeholders, report writing, and supporting young people, among other duties
Before starting, you must complete our pre-appointment checks and induction training. If you are offered a position, we will work with you to complete the necessary screenings so that you can begin immediately after completing the induction training.
